Bricklayer's Remorse by Frizzy J

Whispers from the pavement

Dredge up bygones laid to rest

Like bricks upon the travelled dust of roads, hemmed in and paved

For once we danced and loved and raved

And braved a sunset tryst in lilac cove

Another in a shady forest grove

And then the sun set upon our hearts

For worlds have come and grown between us

Pushing you to him

And me from her

For once our love could have been

A virulent, lovely growth

Of vine and florid hope

But Summer loves are Autumn corpse

Winter memories

Spring lessons

And Summer reveries

Left with nothing but a fencepost, a tree reminder

And whispers from the pavement
