Gamified Journaling for People Who Hate Journaling

When I was younger and active in the church (Methodist — so, pretty casual), we were often encouraged to grab a pen and write when life got confusing. Even if journaling didn’t solve the problem, it helped lay everything out so we could see it clearly.
That habit stuck with me — kind of.
But let’s be real: journaling is hard for a lot of people. The blank page can feel like a boss battle all by itself. You don’t know where to start. You Google prompts. You get overwhelmed. Instead of helping, it starts to feel like homework.
So I asked myself...
What if journaling was a game?

Seriously. Imagine if:
You created a character (that’s you)
Assigned stats based on honest self-inquiry
Turned your challenges into quests
Named your fears and flaws as bosses
And tracked your progress like an RPG
That’s what Roll for Change is.
A self-mastery system that lets you approach real life like it’s a role-playing campaign — with creative tools to make it fun, reflective, and doable.
How I Trick My Brain Into Writing
I write fiction, and sometimes sitting down to start feels impossible. But if I imagine that blank page as a goblin nest I need to clear out… suddenly I want to write. Goblins are nasty, and I’ve got work to do.
Chores? Side quest.Bills? Boss battle. That conversation I’ve been avoiding? Time to roll Charisma.
Next Tuesday: We’re diving into the Boss Fight Tracker — a tool that turns stress, doubt, and overwhelm into tangible enemies you can beat like a real RPG hero.
